Jane Hamlyn

After graduating from Harrow College of Art Jane Hamlyn set up her studio in South Yorkshire in 1975. Jane produces functional saltglazed pots and her work may be used and judged on its fitness-for-purpose. Functionality is the bedrock on which an exploration of form and the particular effects of salt-glazing are developed without the work becoming fanciful or untouchable. The tactile dimension to her work is almost as important as its visual appeal. Her pots are also widely regarded as aesthetically pleasing-a tribute to her integrity in combining the elements of form, function, colour and tactility, with sensitivity and a real affinity with the medium.

Her career has also included chairmanship and membership of various professional bodies, external assessing for several colleges, numerous visiting lectureships and publications and many awards and exhibitions both in this country and abroad. Her work is included in many public collections, including the Crafts Council and V &A Museum
