Ruth Lyne

Having completed her degree 3D design, Ruth initially worked as a jeweller and ran a gallery, before re-training in Ceramics and Glass, and set up her glass studio in 2000.

Her current work is based on the colours and textures found on beaches. She is interested in the way industrial materials and objects are reclaimed by nature but still retain a geometric quality. She uses horizontal and vertical lines to produce a sense of calm, to give an impression of the sea and the cliffs on a bright, still winter’s day.

Metal leaf, powder or wire are placed between two sheets of glass and fused by heating in a kiln. This can then be left flat, or reshaped using a mould by reheating in the kiln. Patterns are created as the metal leaf reacts to the heat, changing colour, producing bubble or burning away.
